Customs and traditions that have historic and cultural associations with the land and activities of local people are important too. This includes Priddy Sheep Fair dating back 650 years, Mendip cave exploration which began as far back as the late 19th century, the Rock of Ages service at Burrington Combe to mark the origin of the famous hymn, the hedging and ploughing matches promoting rural skills, village strawberry fairs and a more recent tradition the Blagdon Pumping station Sunday open days.

Almost all weekends of the Mendip year are filled with community activities celebrating and reflecting a land which is valued and steeped in tradition and custom.
